Businesses Take Note – New Tool Available for Local Searches

Google has unrolled a useful, budget friendly tool for businesses that count on traffic from localized searches, namely Google Tags.  Website Magazine notes its arrival is “one of the most significant (and meaningful) changes to the local search advertising landscape in a very long time”

Tags are yellow markers that appear within local search results.  The tags opens coupons, photos or information supplied by the listing owner.  It is important to note that according to Google’s description, they do not alter ranking on SERPs (search engine results pages).  They do, however, provide businesses an opportunity to promote features, services or products.  Basically the purpose is showcase what makes your business unique.  The tag icon also adds a visual element to local listings, enabling them to stand apart from others.

To use Google Tools, you must have a Google Places account, supply your business information and claim your listing.  The cost for Google Tags is $25 per month.
