Social Media

Social media is a broad term that basically refers to a variety of community-based websites.  There are two main types of social media - social networking and social bookmarking sites.

Social networking sites include Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare.  They are places to congregate online, build networks and share information.  Social bookmarking sites like Stumbleupon and Digg, on the other hand, are places to share recommendations.
